When one of the most recognizable Olympic venues in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park needed a post-Games makeover, a UNIC mini crane was on hand to help with the transformation.
The Aquatics Centre was designed by world-renowned architect Zara Hadid and now the building is being transformed into a public swimming pool following last summer’s London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
After the temporary seating areas had been removed, a 6 tonne capacity UNIC URW-706 spider crane arrived on site to fit new glazing to the external facades of the Aquatics Centre. Using an MRTA611 Six-in-Line vacuum lifter, the crane lifted 250kg screen printed glass panels up to a 16 metre height for installation
The UNIC URW-706 was filmed lifting the first glass panels into position by BBC News as they reported on how the Aquatics Centre will become a training facility for future Olympians when it opens in Spring 2014.
