A design manufacturer of play structures approached UNIC Cranes Europe for help installing a children’s clip and climb inside a leisure centre. They needed a reliable lifting solution and a team of professionals to install the various components of the steel structure.
After a site survey, lift plan, and risk assessment, UNIC Cranes Europe identified the challenges and selected the UNIC URW-376 Mini Spider Crane for the job. This crane was chosen for its compact size, lifting power, and unique features, ensuring efficient completion of the clip and climb project.
The first challenge was navigating through the double-door entrance at the back of the leisure centre. The URW-376 handled this with ease, thanks to its foldable and retractable outriggers. When folded, the crane measures just 1300mm in width and 1800mm in height, allowing it to fit through most double doorways. Its rugged tracks enabled it to traverse uneven terrain and move over the plywood laid to protect the centre’s floor.
After setting up the crane on the plywood sheets and outrigger mats, the customer skated the required loads into the crane’s radius. Our experienced operator lifted each steel beam and panel effortlessly. With a 2.9t capacity, the 322kg maximum weight of components was no challenge for the URW-376. The crane’s precise controls and impressive lifting height were essential for handling the largest beam, which measured 7332mm in length.
Given the height of many components relative to the building, our team had to be extra cautious with the boom’s proximity to the building soffit and the customer’s access equipment.
To ensure a safe working environment inside the leisure centre, UNIC Cranes Europe used a Diesel Particulate Filter at all times, achieving a 99.9%+ reduction in fumes. This precaution protected both workers and the building from harmful emissions, ensuring health and safety throughout the project.
