At Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi, UNIC Cranes Europe’s UAE dealer, Spider Plus, executed the lift of a 2.2-tonne curved glazing unit onto the first-floor walkway. As part of this lift, Spider Plus also had to lift another crane, the URW-706, onto the same floor. The URW-706 would then be used to install the oversized glazing unit for a new Apple store.
After considering the various challenges of this project Spider Plus selected two UNIC cranes to complete this project. As the largest mini spider crane in the UNIC range the URW-1006 was essential for lifting both the 2.2-tonne glass and the 8-tonne URW-706. Compact yet robust, the URW-1006 has a 10-tonne capacity and the URW-706 has a 6-tonne maximum capacity, making them ideal for navigating the mall space and lifting heavy glass.
Following Spider Plus’s arrival on site the lift team utilised the URW-1006 to offload the glazing unit from the delivery truck onto a specialist glass trolley. With a quick setup time, the URW-1006 was perfect for a project which requires multiple lifts across site. Fitted with sturdy tracks and benefitting from a compact width of 2000mm this crane moved with ease through the mall to the lift location.
Next, the URW-706 was reassembled and tracked to the installation location. Fitted with a below-the-hook curved glass vacuum lifter, the Spider Plus team was able to lift this 2.2-tonne glass into place. With its compact size and 8-tonne weight, this crane could comfortably and safely manoeuvre around the upper floor without disturbing the delicate surfaces or struggling to fit through the more challenging areas of the mall.
Inside, the URW-1006 lifted the curved glass onto the next floor, followed by the dismantled URW-706 and a large glass vacuum lifter. With no other access points, the URW-1006 was crucial at this stage of the project in order to ensure that the glass installation could be completed.
Thanks to the Spider Plus lift team and the innovative URW-1006 and URW-706 this glass installation was completed with efficiency and care. Despite the significant challenges faced when installing this oversized curved glazing the combination of our UAE dealer’s expertise and UNIC equipment was more than up to the task.
