The mini-yet-mighty UNIC mini spider crane showed off its impressive weight-to-lift ratio and innovative compact design whilst working inside this small plant room at a UK substation.
As access was restricted and the working area available was very limited inside this part of the substation, the UNIC URW-095 mini crane was hired to take on the task of lifting post insulators into place from a number of set up positions. The 0.995 tonne spider crane had to be operated with accuracy to work around obstacles in the control room such as sections of steelwork.
The UNIC URW-095 crane and an access platform were used to help fit each 25kg post insulator onto the top of 6.5 metre high frame at Finnieston substation. The crane model chosen was LPG powered so now toxic fumes would be emitted in this enclosed area.
UNIC mini spider cranes are often used as safer lifting solutions for working in restricted access areas at electrical substations around the UK. Read more about how our 10 tonne capacity UNIC URW-1006 mini crane was used to complete maintenance work at East Claydon substation.
