A UNIC mini spider crane assisted with the installation of a stone memorial commemorating the soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War.
The eleven stone plaques were erected by a UNIC URW-095 crane in the concourse of London’s Kings Cross station in time for Remembrance Day. Made from marble and encased in stainless steel frames, each of the 240kg tablets list the names of soldiers who died in battle. There tablets represent the eleven soldiers depicted in the famous war painting “Gassed” by John Singer Sargent.
Able to gain access through the station’s 2 metre wide barriers, the compact UNIC mini crane lifted each stone memorial upright into its position with great accuracy. Their minimal dimensions make UNIC cranes ideal for working in busy and congested railway stations such as Kings Cross.
Another mini crane, a UNIC URW-547 helped to construct a war memorial on a cliff edge in Eastbourne, UK in Summer 2012. The project was headed up by a 90 year old war veteran had campaigned and raised funds to have a Bomber Command memorial installed at this remote location.
