The team at the Eureka! children’s museum in Halifax, West Yorkshire got an education in lifting when a UNIC mini spider crane was hired to help put together their new science exhibition.
The UNIC URW-506 model with its 3 tonne lifting capacity and 15.52 metre working radius was chosen for this job which involved lifting large sculptures of body parts from ground level up onto a 6 metre high first floor balcony. Controlled by an experienced operator, the mini crane was able to lift the 600kg loads, including a giant nose, up onto the rooftop while working at a 7 metre radius.
The body parts lifted by the mini crane were for the new “All About Me” gallery, a £2.9m interactive exhibition designed to teach children about anatomy.
UNIC mini cranes are compact and portable enough for both indoor and outdoor use and have worked on a number of UK museums (such as National Museum of Scotland, Hunterian Museum and National Maritime Museum) lifting glass display cabinets and exhibits.
