Spider Plus, UNIC Cranes Europe’s UAE dealer, recently completed essential glazing works for Solitaire Mall in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The project involved fitting 15 glazing units weighing up to 1 tonne in an indoor setting, a challenge suited to specialised equipment and experts in this field.
Chosen for their expertise in glazing in confined spaces Spider Plus put together a lift team and selected their most qualified equipment. As one of the most popular cranes in the UNIC range the URW-295 Mini Spider Crane shines as an example of incredible innovation. Offering a 2.9t maximum lifting capacity with 360° continuous slewing, this impressive crane provides strength and flexibility across all projects.
Challenges faced in this project included the size and weight of the 15 glazing units. With the heavier units weighing 900kg – 1t and measuring 2.4m × 2.2m, as well as the larger units weighing 700kg but measuring 4m × 4.6m, precision and strength were essential for completing this installation safely. Furthermore, the limited space inside the mall, especially for the larger glazing units, prevented ease of movement.
To overcome these Spider Plus utilised their team’s skills and the URW-295’s features for ultimate efficiency. With four outriggers for enhanced stabilisation and precise controls, the URW-295 handled each glazing unit with ease along with the help of Spider Plus’s below-the-hook glass vacuum lifter. Its 360° continuous slewing ability allowed it to manoeuvre the glazing from stillage to window opening.
Overcoming challenges posed by heavy glazing units and tight indoor spaces, the team demonstrated how innovative equipment and skilled coordination can achieve outstanding results. The precision and flexibility offered by the URW-295, combined with Spider Plus’s specialised approach, ensured the project was completed safely and smoothly.
