UNIC Cranes dealer KMB, based in the Czech Republic, recently supported a challenging underground construction project in the heart of Prague, supplying a compact lifting solution for a customer.

The project involved the construction of underground multi-storey garages in a busy city-centre location, where restricted access and extremely low ceiling heights created significant lifting challenges.
From the outset, the limited headroom ruled out the use of conventional cranes. The work area was confined, access routes were narrow, and lifting operations had to be carried out beneath existing structures. To overcome these constraints, KMB selected the UNIC-506 spider crane, a compact yet powerful machine designed specifically for lifting in tight and low-clearance environments.
Despite its small footprint, the UNIC URW-506 was more than capable of handling the demands of the project. The crane was able to move easily into the underground space and operate safely beneath the low ceiling, where precise positioning was essential. Throughout the project, loads weighing approximately 2,200kg were lifted and placed with control and accuracy, demonstrating the crane’s impressive performance in confined conditions.

The UNIC URW-506’s ability to combine compact dimensions with strong lifting capacity made it particularly well suited to this underground garage build. Its flexible outrigger configuration allowed the crane to stabilise effectively even within restricted setup areas, while its smooth and responsive controls enabled safe lifting close to walls, ceilings and other structural elements. This level of precision is critical in underground construction.
Operating in a dense urban environment like Prague city centre requires equipment that can minimise disruption and maximise efficiency. The UNIC URW-506 completed the job without the need for larger machinery or structural modifications, helping the project stay on schedule while maintaining a high level of safety.

This project clearly demonstrates how compact spider cranes continue to play a vital role in modern construction. With the support of KMB and the proven capabilities of the UNIC URW-506, complex lifting challenges can be overcome even in the most restrictive environments. While the UNIC-506 has built a strong reputation for tackling projects like this one, it has now been surpassed by the UNIC URW-546 spider crane.
