Our Czech Republic dealer, KMB Stavební Servis, recently completed a project at a family home. The project required the installation of glazing units in restricted access areas, such as a small gap between the swimming pool and the home. A crane with compact features yet heavy lifting power was needed.
This is where KMB came in with their range of UNIC Mini Spider Cranes and specialism in challenging lifting projects. After careful consideration of the challenges in the lift, KMB selected the URW-095 Mini Spider Crane. As one of the smallest cranes in the UNIC range the URW-095 offers exceptional flexibility in confined spaces, allowing it to fit where other cranes can’t. With a 0.995t lifting capacity it would also have no issue lifting the large glazing units.
One challenge included installing glazing underneath a balcony and above a lightwell. A supporting beam for the balcony also prevented direct clear access to the window, requiring careful machinery position from the operator. Proximity to bushes and tree branches further restricted positioning as it was essential to avoid damage to the customer’s garden.
To overcome these difficulties KMB relied on the URW-095’s compact lifting power to get the job done. With precise controls, the operator was able to carefully manoeuvre the glazing from stillage and under the overhang. The slim design and flexible outriggers of the crane made set up of the machine simple allowing easy lifting from a position where other cranes may have struggled.
The toughest challenge in this project was installing the glazing units next to the pool. With limited space for crane set up the URW-095 was placed precisely, with each outrigger positioned to avoid the edge of the pool. Without much space to move the operator used the radio remote control for the best working visuals, allowing the operator to move with the load. With a glass vacuum lifter attached the URW-095 retrieved the glazing from the glass stillage and positioned both pieces underneath the overhang.

Despite the challenging environment and limited access, the crane’s compact design, precision controls, and reliable lifting capacity made it the ideal choice for this intricate glazing installation.
