A compact Unic spider crane made its way to North Yorkshire’s historic Ripon Cathedral recently to work on the building’s latest construction project.
A Unic URW-095 mini crane was hired for four weeks to work on the impressive cathedral building, which has undergone a number of renovations since it was founded in 672 AD. To further improve the cathedral’s entrance ways, the Unic crane helped to construct three glass porches which were designed to allow more light into the building and create a more welcoming atmosphere.
The lightweight wide mini crane used an LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) power option so no toxic fumes were emitted when working in this environmentally-sensitive location. As this 0.995 tonne capacity machine is just 600mm wide, it could easily make its way into the cathedral through the narrow doors with no danger of causing damage to the building.
To create the new entrance porches, the mini crane first lifted bronze clad steel frames in position, then helped to install engraved glass windows onto the structure. The cathedral’s new features mean that the building will be better lit and now visitors will be able to see the building’s internal architecture more clearly.
