UNIC crane builds Berlin’s crystal covered Christmas Tree
A UNIC URW-706 mini spider crane was used in Berlin railway station to help build a giant Christmas tree covered in sparkling Swarovski crystals.
The 6 tonne capacity mini spider crane used its lifting power and generous reach to create this 20 metre tall “Weihnachtsbaum” in sections inside the glazed concourse of Berlin Hauptbahnhof. This spectacular tree was worth €2.5 million thanks to the 40,000 Aurora Borealis Swarovski crystals covering its branches.
The UNIC mini crane was sold by our official German dealers Mini & Mobile Cranes Körner GmbH to bt-sky-lift Zeilinga GmbH who completed the job. The tree was constructed by the crane lifting sections to be stacked on top of each other, with personnel on an access platform adding extra foliage around the tree where there were any gaps. At just 1.67 metres wide, the UNIC URW-706 crane could easily work in the congested and limited access environment of Berlin railway station.
