UNIC cranes help with a New Year transformation
UNIC mini cranes have been helping to transform this old building in Stoke-on-Trent UK, as part of a commercial property renovation.
Two UNIC URW-095 spider cranes were used to remove and install steel beams from inside the property which is being turned into a retail unit and apartments. By attaching searcher hooks to these cranes they had some extra reach to first remove the old ceiling supports. The crane duo took the weight of the ceiling beams while they were cut in half, then lifted each section out.
Once the old ceiling steels had been removed, the 0.995 tonne capacity mini cranes installed the floor support beams. These 1 tonne and 8 metre long beams were cut in half so each crane could lift a section up to the installation point where they were bolted together again. The pair of cranes lifted 9 full beams up to a 7.8 metre maximum height to complete the job.
LPG power was used to run the UNIC URW-095 cranes , so no fumes were released in the confined space. The 600mm wide chassis of these cranes meant that they could easily move around this restricted access environment with limited free space available.
Two or more mini spider cranes are often used for tandem lifting in restricted access areas. For example, two cranes were hired to install steelwork at the Olympia exhibition centre and three cranes were used to create this shopping centre Santa’s Grotto.
