UNIC mini crane helps glaze the Serpentine Gallery
A UNIC mini spider crane was hired to help create an impressive frameless curved glass wall at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in London’s Hyde Park.
The modern Serpentine Sackler Gallery was designed by famous architect Zaha Hadid, has 900m² of exhibition space and sits on the site of a 200 year old gunpowder store.
Using a variety of below-the-hook vacuum lifting attachments, a UNIC URW-095 mini spider crane helped to install the 30 glass panels and 30 glass fins that made up the wall that curves around the gallery. The 0.995 tonne capacity spider crane was able to work with precision to fit the 620kg, 4 metre tall panels underneath the building’s undulating roof.
Thanks to the assistance of this UNIC mini spider crane, the installation team were able to finish their glazing work in plenty of time for the gallery’s public opening in September 2013.
