UNIC mini crane hired for UK waterways inspection
UNIC mini spider cranes help make sure that Britain’s canals are in perfect working order, like on this lock inspection job in Chester, UK.
A UNIC URW-295 mini crane was hired to assist with building a temporary dam at a lock gate on the Shropshire Union Canal for its annual inspection. To drain water from the lock, the 2.9 tonne capacity spider crane lifted 100kg stop planks into place from the side of the canal.
The UNIC URW-295 was tracked over a 200 metre distance to reach this spot on the canal. The 5 metre long stop planks were transported to the lock gate via boat, then one by one lifted by the crane along with two pumps to the bottom of the lock.
Once the maintenance work and inspection had been carried out, the UNIC mini crane returned to the canal to remove the planks. UNIC mini cranes are frequently hired to help out with work on canals and waterways, for projects such as lock gate replacements and gantry crane installations.
