UNIC mini crane installs knife sculpture at Heston Blumenthal restaurant
A UNIC mini spider crane was hired to help install a mechanical knife sculpture at the new restaurant in London Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 2 building, The Perfectionists’ Café, owned by renowned chef Heston Blumenthal.
A 0.995 tonne capacity UNIC URW-095 mini crane was used to install the “Clockwork Knife” sculpture which was designed by artist Rob Higgs and took 10 weeks to build. The 200kg knife is 3.3 metres long and includes mechanical parts which operate its moving blade.
The 600mm wide UNIC mini crane was tracked through the terminal and travelled in a goods lift the reach the restaurant on the upper level of the departure lounge. Once in position, the LPG powered spider crane lifted the artwork up to its installation point 6.5 metres high where a team working on an access platform fixed the knife into place.
