A UNIC mini spider crane was hired to lift a giant statue of fashion designer Rick Owens at Selfridges department store in London, UK recently.
The 7.6 metre tall sculpture took 12 weeks to build and was part of “The World of Rick Owens” exhibit at Selfridge’s Oxford Street store which celebrated 20 years in the fashion industry for the designer.
The UNIC URW-706 mini crane model was hired for this one night installation job as it had the lifting power and reach to lift the statue onto the 6 metre high canopy above the store’s entrance. The 6 tonne capacity spider crane lifted the sculpture in three parts, first the 1000kg torso section, then the 500kg arm and torch, then finally the 175kg head with black hair made from strips of fabric.
The UNIC crane worked from the pavement, moving each part of the sculpture from the transport vehicle up to a 14 metre height.
