UNIC Mini Crane On A North Wales Clifftop Stars On Grand Designs
A UNIC mini spider crane appeared on a recent episode of Channel 4’s home renovation TV programme Grand Designs in the UK. A 6 tonne capacity UNIC URW-706 mini crane travelled to the North Wales coast to install glazing to a property located just 10 metres away from the cliff edge.
The new ultra-modern home was built in Gwynedd, North Wales in place of a 400 year old farmhouse with some incredible views of the sea and beach below. The UNIC mini crane was hired to complete the glazing work using a glass vacuum lifter to install the 750kg reinforced triple glazed units which would provide protection from the 100 mph winds in this exposed coastal location.

The lightweight and compact UNIC mini crane was ideal for working on this clifftop location as the property’s owners had been told that their home may only have 60 years before it was affected by the cliffside crumbling away. To make the most of the land’s limited lifespan, they tried to limit the wear and tear on the ground during the construction phase. Access to the site was also restricted by a 3.6 metre high railway bridge but this didn’t prove to be a problem for the UNIC mini crane.
When the project was eventually completed the finished result proved to be worth the hard work and effort for a beautiful home with amazing coastal views. This isn’t the first time that a UNIC mini crane has featured on Grand Designs, take a look at this clip from the show in 2011.
