Unic mini crane on The Shard stars in The Apprentice
Eagle-eyed fans of BBC’s The Apprentice will have spotted the almost completed Shard skyscraper and our Unic mini spider crane appearing in the last week’s episode of the popular TV show.
In their trademark spectacular shots of London’s most famous landmarks, our Unic URW-706 mini crane could be seen working 283 metres high, lifting glass panels from the building’s rooftop.
In reality, after installing 440 glass panels over the last 11 weeks, our mini crane is now back on solid ground after being lifted down last week. To meet the project’s deadlines, our operators worked 24 hours a day with a team of abseiling glaziers.
The 6 tonne capacity Unic mini crane was lifted down from the top of The Shard just as easily as it went up. The crane’s boom and body were carried down by the building’s tower crane separately and then quickly placed into the back of our van, so the crane was ready to be taken back to our depot and send out on its next job.
Take a look at our mini crane’s starring moment at 40 minutes in alongside Lord Sugar in The Apprentice on BBC iPlayer. Keep your eyes peeled for any appearances throughout the series!
