UNIC mini crane works on Sherlock mansion
1The futuristic mansion with an impressive winter garden that appeared on the series finale of BBC drama “Sherlock” was glazed with some help from a UNIC mini crane back in 2007.
The “Appledore” home of the episode’s villain Charles Magnussen is in reality the £30 million Swinhay House in the Cotswolds which belongs to Sir David McMurtry. The 23,250 square foot country mansion used for filming in the “His Last Vow” episode of Sherlock has 10 floors and three separate wings.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman filmed scenes as Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson in the winter garden which the UNIC mini crane helped create. A 0.995 tonne capacity UNIC URW-095 mini spider crane fitted with a searcher hook and a glass vacuum lifter was used to fit glass panels on the ground floor underneath a canopy.
