UNIC Mini Spider Crane Unloads Cruise Passenger Luggage
A UNIC URW-706 was used to unload holiday luggage from Fred Olsen cruise ship, the Black Watch. The crane was set up on Tilbury Dock, 13m below the ship’s deck. The Black Watch carries up to 804 passengers with a luggage allowance of 90kgs each – a mini crane was essential to the job!
The URW-706 was the perfect machine for the task thanks to its 6t lifting capacity and maximum lifting height of 19.5m. One of the strongest mini cranes on the market, the URW-706 can be controlled from the operators driving seat or by a fully function radio remote control for precise placement of loads.
The Black Watch is 205m long and weighs 28,613t; that is before the 804 passengers and 330 crew members are aboard. The ship sails routes around the UK, Ireland, the Canary Islands, Northern Europe, Norway, Greenland and the Arctic.
This ‘maxi’ mini-crane is capable of handling loads of 6 tonnes to a radius of 3 metres and a height of 7.2 metres. An optional searcher hook and a 3.1m long fly jib deliver a maximum hook height of 22.7m.
