UNIC Spider Crane Brings Christmas Cheer to UK Parliament
UNIC Cranes Europe was called on to lift a Christmas tree in the UK Houses of Parliament. A UNIC URW-095 mini spider crane lifted the 20 foot tall tree at Westminster Hall, the oldest Parliamentary building in London’s Westminster, to spark the Christmas spirit. The tree weighed in at over 100kg but was lifted with ease by the URW-095 thanks to its lifting capacity of almost one tonne.
Westminster Hall has played a central role in 900 years of British history, built in 1097 it was the largest hall in Europe. The hall has the largest clearspan medieval roof in England, measuring 20.7 metres by 73.2 metres with its oak timbers coming from royal woods in Hampshire and Hertfordshire.
This slimline crane has a 600mm wide chassis so could easily travel through internal doorways to reach the lifting location inside the grand hall. The crane was set up on outrigger mats in order to protect the floor. The mini crane then carefully lifted the traditional tree up from the ground and carefully planted it into a metal drum without damaging its delicate branches.
Thanks to a bit of mini crane magic, Westminster Hall was spruced up ready for Christmas celebrations in no time at all!
It is around this time of year that UNIC’s spider cranes are called upon to help with the installation of Christmas trees and other festive displays. Take a look at Berlin’s crystal covered tree.
