Unic mini cranes provide the perfect lifting solution for working in restricted access areas such as on riverbanks and canal locks to maintain and repair UK waterways.
When the lock gates needed to be replaced at the Northgate Locks on Chester canal, a Unic URW-376 mini crane was hired to help set up a metal gantry over the water for removing and installing the gate pieces.
As there was no road access available for traditional craneage to reach the canal, the mobile Unic mini crane proved to be ideal for easily making its way under bridges and over paths to get to the site. The compact size of the Unic crane also meant that it could fit in the confined space which it needed to work from to move the gantry sections into the correct position.
The 2.9 tonne capacity spider crane lifted the gantry’s top beam, weighing 860k, and 200kg supporting frame posts into place ready for the whole frame to be raised into position.
Once the gantry had finished its work installing the new lock gate, the Unic crane returned to the canal to uninstall the frame. When the gantry had been dismantled, the crane lifted each section into a boat in the canal, so it could transport the gantry by water to where the next lock gate was to be replaced.
