A UNIC URW-095 mini spider crane was hired to work inside North Greenwich underground station recently to help suspend a cable car gondola from the ceiling.
The gondola was hung from the London Underground station ceiling to promote the cable car ride which travels across the River Thames. The “Emirates Airline” was launched in 2012 and was the UK’s first urban cable car ride.
The UNIC URW-095 spider crane used its 0.995 tonnes capacity to lift the 400kg gondola up to the ceiling where it was fixed into place using the steel attachment on top of the 2 metre wide, 2 metre tall cabin. The 600mm wide mini crane was easily tracked through the station and to the lifting location.
The UNIC crane lifted the gondola to a height of 8.2 metres, having to work close to the ceiling and around the promotional stand which stood underneath the installation point. As this crane was working indoors, its diesel engine was fitted with a Portable Scrubber which filtered out most of the crane’s fumes.
