When one of the largest pallet manufacturers in the Czech Republic needed a brand-new sawdust sorting line installed inside their production hall, they turned to our trusted Czech dealer, KMB STAVEBNÍ SERVIS s.r.o. Over three days, KMB’s team used the world’s largest mini spider crane – the UNIC URW-1006 – to lift the entire line into position, piece by piece, without disrupting the surrounding production environment.

The Project
The customer is a leading producer of returnable and bespoke pallets, with timber processing operations that also extend to plywood and counterweight veneer manufacturing. Sawdust is a constant by-product of that work, and an efficient sorting line is essential to keeping the plant running cleanly and profitably.
The challenge for KMB was the variety of the lift. The sorting line was made up of many individual components, each different in size and weight. Most pieces were large but relatively light, ranging from 150kg up to 400kg, while the heaviest single section weighed in at a full 2 tonnes. Every piece had to be manoeuvred into a precise position inside an active production hall, meaning controlled, indoor-friendly lifting was non-negotiable.
To handle the full range of weights and dimensions in one go, KMB deployed the UNIC URW-1006.
Why the URW-1006 Was the Right Crane for the Job
Despite being the largest mini crane in the UNIC range, the URW-1006 slotted into the production hall perfectly. That blend of serious lifting capacity with a compact footprint is exactly what makes it such a sought-after machine for indoor and restricted-access work, where conventional mobile cranes simply can’t follow.
A few of the URW-1006 features that earned its place on this project:
- 10-tonne maximum lifting capacity – comfortably handling the 2-tonne heaviest piece with plenty of margin in reserve.
- Lifting height up to 30.7 m and a working radius of 24.3 m – far more reach than this job needed, but reassuring on multi-position indoor installs.
- Just 2 metres wide – narrow enough to operate inside a working industrial hall without needing the line shut down around it.
- Configurable outriggers with full interlocking safety system – ideal for setting up on factory floors where space is asymmetric.
- Radio remote control with live feedback – giving the operator a clear view of safe working load, actual load, radius and boom length while placing each component.
- High-resolution colour LCD safe load indicator – for total awareness of the lift in real time.
- Pick-and-carry function up to 1.5 tonnes – invaluable when components need to be moved between staging and final position inside the same building.
For a job that mixed light, awkward pieces with a single 2-tonne lift, deploying the URW-1006 meant KMB didn’t have to swap machines mid-project. One crane, three days, the whole line installed.

KMB STAVEBNÍ SERVIS has been the official UNIC Cranes Europe dealer for the Czech Republic and Slovakia for many years, and projects like this one are a great example of why that partnership continues to grow. Their team’s experience reaches across some of the country’s most demanding lifting work, from glazing high-rise developments in Prague and installing rooftop whirlpools, to lifting historic bells into church towers and handling complex industrial installations like this one.
