UNIC Cranes Europe’s United Arab Emirates dealer, Spider Plus, installed 5 glazing units for a VIP villa in Dubai using the URW-546 Mini Spider Crane and GL-UMC 600 Glass Manipulator attachment.
With glazing needing installation on both the rear and front of the villa Spider Plus faced multiple challenging lifting factors across the project. At the rear of the building, the glazing units to be lifted weighed 400kg, measuring 4m × 2.5m and had to be lifted under a 1.8m overhang. Adding further complexity to the lift setup space was limited, requiring outrigger positioning over gaps.
At the front of the building, glazing units weighed 480kg and measured 4m x 3m—heavier than the other units—and they also had to be installed within an even deeper 2.5m overhang. Crane setup was also challenging due to limited space next to the window openings.

Despite these challenges, Spider Plus and the UNIC URW-546 Mini Spider Crane took this project on with ease. Spider Plus’s lift team utilised the innovative URW-546 to lift each glazing unit with precision. A 1400mm width body when compact allowed the operator to manoeuvre onto site and through narrow access points. This crane’s maximum 16m lifting height and 15.52m working radius ensured plenty of reach of installing each of the glazing units.
Combined with the GL-UMC 600 the glass could be precisely positioned underneath the overhang. Benefiting from a radio remote control Spider Plus’s operator could manipulate each load from below, the attachment’s 360° continuous rotation, 35° head slew left and right, 120° tilt providing unbeatable control for a more efficient installation. The included remote reduced required manual handling of the heavy and sharp glass, creating safer working conditions around the challenging loads.
