A UNIC URW-506 mini spider crane was hired to help complete external glazing work at the new velodrome in Derby, UK recently.
The 3 tonne capacity mini crane was used to install hard-to-reach glazed curtain walling units to the cycling competition and training venue at Pride Park. The 1,700 capacity stadium features a 250 metre cycling track and is only the fourth facility of its kind in the UK.
A GL-UMC600 glass manipulator was attached to the boom of the UNIC URW-506 mini crane to fit the glazed panels. The 600kg capacity vacuum manipulator head could easily lift the 200kg angled glass units into position on the building’s façade. The UNIC crane and glazing attachment took just one day to fit all 10 units.
The Derby velodrome will open its door in January 2015 after construction was completed on schedule.
UNIC mini cranes have been hired in the past to work on other velodrome projects, such as lifting timber trusses at the cycling track for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
