UNIC spider crane constructs tree in Czech Science museum
A UNIC mini spider crane was hired from our Czech UNIC dealers KMB Stavebni servis s.r.o recently to help build an exhibit in the shape of a tree inside the The World of Technology museum, Svět Techniky, in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
The 0.995 tonne capacity UNIC URW-095 spider crane was used to create the giant wooden sculpture, which has an internal staircase so visitors can climb up it. This exhibit features in the Natural World section of the museum which opened in September 2014.
The URW-095 crane first helped to build the tree’s steel skeleton which reached a 9 metre height, before adding the wooden shell around it and several large branches. The mini crane was fitted with a 700kg fly jib attachment to reach the highest installation points on the tree structure.
At just 600mm wide, the URW-095 model could easily access the museum’s gallery and could move quickly into various set-up positions around the tree. A Portable Scrubber was fitted to the crane’s diesel engine to filter the fumes in this enclosed space.
Compact UNIC mini cranes are often hired for working in museums as they can work in restricted access areas and work around obstacles. Take a look at this UNIC mini crane working at the Eureka! National Children’s Museum in Halifax, UK.
